Austin Youth Ukestra debuts Winter 2018!
About the ensemble
Directed by ukulele educator, composer, conductor and arranger Kevin Carroll, the Austin Youth Ukestra is open to any ukulele player between 8 and 18 years of age. Participants should have their own ukulele (or bass.) There are spots for up to 12 members per ensemble. (10 ukuleles and 2 basses) Repertoire will be from Kevin Carroll's expansive library of differentiated ukulele ensemble arrangements. Ukuleles available for sale at rehearsal location.
A tuition fee of $150 is required of all ensemble members each semester they participate. Tuition includes all rehearsals, all printed music materials, class instruction and at least one public performance. Partial payment plans and limited scholarships are available – please inquire with "Scholarship" in email subject field.
Students will be expected to fully prepare, with the assistance of their teachers, all assigned pieces in advance of rehearsals. In other words: they should arrive at their first rehearsal already able to play from the beginning to the end of all assigned pieces at a reasonable tempo. Students will have access to online resources for practicing between rehearsals. There will .pdf copies available of the first set of music when students enroll. Printed materials for the semester will be handed out at the first rehearsal. Replacement copies will be $25.
Students should bring their music and their ukulele to each rehearsal. Music stands and bass amp will be provided. Performance attire will be respectful clothing in a medium to dark color. Dark blue or black preferred.
